Different Cariñena Wines |
This mainly red wine comes from central Spain, just south of La Rioja (see map). It was granted its denominación de origen status in 1960 and has been producing very good wines ever since. Garnacha is the main grape variety, accounting for more than half the vineyard, followed by Tempranillo (15%) and (strangely) Cariñena (6%). The wines of Cariñena tend to be mainly joven (young) in style, produced in all three colours.
More and more of these wines are being sold by retailers here in the UK, especially El Bombero.
