The DO zone surrounds the two towns of Montilla and Moriles, both located in the province of Córdoba, southern Spain. The city of Córdoba was a Moorish capital and its architecture reflects Moorish tastes.
The main grape is Pedro Ximénez, or PX, and this is the only one likely to be found in the classic Montillas that get into the export market (apart from the occasional Moscatel). Their wines are made in the sherry style.
