Different Almansa Wines |

This is a little known Denominación de Origen from south-east Spain, just north of Alicante. The town itself is dominated by a castle, the last of many to be built and razed during the Reconquista, and its architecture is more north-castilian that Mediterranean. Almansa is the chief town of the DO, but wine is made in a further eight towns and villages throghout the region. The main grape is Monastrell, which takes up nearly half the vineyared, followed by Garnacha Tintorera: a great blending grape if nothing special on its own.
