This white wine comes from Castilla-León, northern-central Spain, and has an excellent reputation within northern Spain. It is made mainly from the Verdejo grape. Normal Ruedas contain 25% Verdejo, but Rueda Superior contains a minimum of 85%. Careful research has shown Verdejo works perfectly with the climate and soil. Further research has also indicated that Sauvignon Blanc is also suited to the region - it was added to the list of authorised varieties in 1992. The climate is continental, with rainfall being the guiding factor for wine quality (sporadic rain throughout the year is best). The vineyards are also located at altitude (600-780 metres) which can present a frost problem. There are also Rueda Espumoso wines, the term given to sparkling wines made by the método tradicional.
